Whether with one or four kids, there is one thing all moms have in common: limited time.
And that kind of sums up all our efforts in staying pretty in no time, and regardless of your audience. You may be a working or a stay-at-home mum, but one thing is for sure – we all want to look our best and fake a fresh body & mind every morning!
First step – THE EYES. The eyes never lie, honey! One trick is caffeinated bags under your eyes to reduce puffiness. Soak the bags in hot water, then let them cool to room temperature for a few minutes. Squeeze out the excess liquid and then place them on closed eyes for couple of minutes. The caffeine will increase circulation and the antioxidants will have additional wrinkle-fighting benefits for your skin too! Go, coffee!
And besides the face, your BODY can also enjoy the coffee’s superpowers: make your own natural body scrub – mix coffee grounds with olive oil and scrub your whole body once a week while in the shower. The coffee grounds will eliminate dead cells and the olive oil will leave your skin smooth and hydrated!
Another way of achieving fresh face in the morning that resembles the covers of Vogue is ice cold water, or simply – ice cubes. If you’re in a hurry (and we mostly are, all the time), splash your face with cold water to reduce inflammation in instant. Or, like future mom and supermodel Irina Shayk advises, run an ice cub on your face in the morning and you will look brand new the whole day.
Number 3 : never, but never forget to take your make-up off. Yes we know, your grandma used this line on you for years and years, but there’s a reason why every beauty expert insists on this issue! Going to bed with a clean, moisturised face & body is the secret to day-time beauty. If you find yourself often too tired for this, keep a pack of moisturising makeup removing wipes by your bed, and this way you’ll feel too tempted to ignore them before going to bed. So take that make up off before you sleep, because you’ll be stuck with it for the rest of your life! You have to wash your face! Cleanse, cleanse, cleanse!
Keep your make-up minimal. This is the secret, after all. And who said that “less is more”, was right. The more you try to look perfect and wear a perfect eye-liner cat wing, and a perfectly polished red lip and a perfect cheek-bone bronzer, the more it will show how hard you tried. Because the eyes say everything. Instead, use a tinted moisturiser in the place of foundation and powder, trash a coat of mascara, and use your lip gloss in every way possible : on your lips, on the cheeks for a shiny, fresh touch of pink ( or peach, whatever you look good in), or on the eye-lids for a evening look. And there you go, you’re good to go with one cream and one lip gloss.
Sure, blow-drying your hair sounds nice, but also exhausting and almost impossible when chasing after kids and making sandwiches at the same time. Instead, opt for fine-turning your wash-and-go cuts and styles to streamline your morning routine.
One word: Olive Oil. Jerry Hall: “My mother was very keen on olive oil. Rubbing olive oil all over your hair and your skin–that was one of her big beauty tips and I still do that. Every now and then I just pour it on and leave it during the summer. Just give it a good soak. I mean, you can’t do it all the time, but every now and then I do.”
Take care of your neck, decoltee and your hands! They are the first ones to “mature”. Moisturise them on a regular base and don’t think you can hide them under your clothes so easily!
And don’t forget that moms know it best!
