Editor’s note for the beginning of the year. With love.
2016 is gone, 2017 is up. Went by kinda quickly for you moms everywhere, hasn’t it? That’s something only a mom can tell. Period. For regular women time has another dimension- one that flows much slower, that’s for sure. But don’t you worry, because you don’t wanna get more wrinkles than you already have.
So, time to make new year’s resolutions, put them on paper, and start ticking them one by one. Spend more time with the kids, go back to work, try a new pie recipe every two Sundays, set a date night for each Tuesday with your husband, don’t forget any anniversaries again, eat better, go to the gym, drink more water, and the list is endless.
But first, slow down. That is how I manage to plan my time wisely, jog with my baby, the job, my husband and the studying all while at the same time staying sane. That is how you can keep calm about everything your babies go through – from growth leaps to colds-, and how you can be able to take everything as it comes, without stressing about it or making a drama out of each sleepless night. Calm.
When you are in peace with yourself and with the role of being a mom, things fall together in the right way. When you understand that raising a child does not have to be a challenge, but rather a joy and when you see that children are human beings that grow up around you and that there are some things you can not control, life becomes easier and makes sense. No, being a mom does not mean you can control everything around you. It does not mean you have to take care of everything around you – that’s why we are called a family, because we need to work together.
MY secrets to daily energy, peace and wellbeing? One word: Hydration.
Lots of water and tea (I make it out of fresh linden flowers) for inside out hydration and coconut oil for … well you can use it for pretty much anything you can think of. I use cold-pressed organic Coconut oil right after I get out of the shower on moist skin, on my whole body; I use it for the hair, as a face mask to leave in over-night, as a natural make-up remover, for cuticles and for scrubs. Coconut oil, sugar and essential oils mixed together make up for the best scrub you can try – plus, it’s home made and organic.
Skin softening organic coconut milk is the basis of this luxurious and indulgent bath soak. Perfect for hydrating and softening skin, this bath soak will leave your skin silky soft and smelling of coconut and natural vanilla.
Coconut soak, www.herbivorebotanicals.com, $18.
The Face – it speaks truth even when you don’t want it to. The French Pink Clay is considered to be the mildest of all clays and works well for any skin type. This botanical face mask will gently detoxify, tone and make your skin glow from the inside out.
Argile Rose & Pink Clay face mask, www.elucx.com, $ 39.
” After a night of indulgent libation”, it says right here on the bottle. Perfect for any mom I’d say – whether after a Saturday night out indulging in some well-deserved glasses of wine or…whiskey, why not, or whether a sleepless night of breastfeeding and rocking babies to sleep, this Rose Leaf bath soak is just heavenly.
Facial steams are a beautiful way to purify the skin, draw impurities from your pores & help to improve circulation. Breathe floral steam contains an aromatic blend of rose buds, calendula flowers, rose petals, jasmine buds. Essential oil infused sea salt adds an extra layer of aroma once released by steam.
Breathe Floral facial steam, www.residentgp.com, $17,95.
So no matter where you are, no matter how many kids you have, if you’re a working or a stay-at-home mom, just remember everything can be done if you stay calm, relax and lay back. Because kids grow around you, and if you are balanced, they grow in balance.
