Beyoncé Evokes a Golden Goddess at the Grammy Awards

Beyoncé at the Grammys is just too much to handle. And we love it.

Dedicating the 2017’s Grammy magnum opus to her mother, Tina Lawson, Beyoncé dug deep into Lawson’s rich Southern roots not only for creative references but also as a way to undergird their indelible bond.

And this mother-daughter relationship of their has never been better displayed than on last night’s Grammy Awards stage, which the two of them shared. In their goddess-y/ queenly roles, you could see they were cut from the same cloth. Blue Ivy included! Following Sunday’s earth- and soul-shattering Grammys performances of “Love Drought” and “Sandcastles” from Bey’s Lemonade album, Beyoncé’s official website released several behind-the-scenes photos from the video component that played just before our queen entered the stage. Among the photos: a pregnant Bey posing with mama Tina and daughter Blue Ivy in matching gold ensembles, Blue giggling, and Bey with her dancers.

After being introduced by her mother, Beyoncé made her appearance in a golden bikini and crown that echoed one of her pregnancy announcement photo shoots, proudly showing off her far-along baby bump hosting twins. Ladies and gentlemen, that’s how you do an entrance.

Her performance didn’t lack symbolism and hidden messages, just like her pregnancy photoshoot didn’t either – there were references to a goddess, femininity and motherhood; halos and her favourite girls- Tina and Blue – a long rectangular table that staged an all-female Last Supper; and flower petals covering the stage.

The songs Bey decided to perform on stage weren’t random as well, as they deal with forgiveness and emotions. A truly inspiring and moving performance, that brought everyone on their feet and had us all tear up a little bit – don’t tell us that when Beyoncé said at the very end “If we’re gonna heal, let it be glorious” didn’t choke you up a bit!

Here are some more behind-the-scenes snaps of her amazing performance. First of all, there is Bey and her glorious, gorgeous, flaunting belly:
