Secretly, and privately, of course.
The ex-football player David Beckham and his wife, ex-Spice Girls singer and fashion designer Victoria Beckham, have renewed their wedding vows over the weekend. The soccer star shared the happy news during the BBC radio show Desert Island Discs. “We have renewed our vows since then and it was a lot more private,” he said. “There were about six people there in our house.”
The couple married 18 years ago, in 1999 during a fastuous ceremony held at an Irish castle. The Becks made history by wearing both all white for the first ceremony (including baby Brooklyn who joined them, of course), and then changed into purple ensembles for the reception. AND they cut the cake with a sword. How priceless is that picture?! Back then, the duo was at the peak of their “Posh and Becks” fame, and Victoria had not yet embarked upon her now successful career as a designer.
If you need a reminder of that day, here it is.
And a look back at the actual party:
After that “historical” cultural event aka the Posh-Becks wedding, the couple planned this time a more low-key affair, hosted in the privacy of their own home. This comes as no surprise, given how privately the couple has become over the past few years in regards to their family life and the kids. In the radio interview, David also talked about the beginning of their relationship, and how they had to go on dates just sitting in his car because the Spice Girls’ manager wouldn’t let her actually go out. But he says the two of them have staying power because how how they were raised.
“We’ve got strong parents, we were brought up with the right values,” he said. “Of course you make mistakes over the years, and we all know marriage is difficult at times. It’s about working through it.”
“We stay together because we love each other, and because we have four wonderful children.”
