Like so many women we feature on Realmomster, Madalina is currently in the middle of a master juggling act. You might recognise this pretty face as the designer behind the modern and super beautiful jewellery line she owns, Madeleine Artisan Jeweler. She started her own brand 4 years ago when her son, Matei was just 1 – and has become a leading name in the Romanian and international jewellery market. Her pieces are raw, organic and flattering for any special occasion, for any evening cocktaul party and any coffee with your girlfriends at lunch. Versatile, sexy and elegant all at the same time.
We love to have real women, who are successful, inspiring, hot and honest. Madalina definitely fits 100 % in this category and we’re super happy she agreed to let us in. Madeleine opens her modern, designer home to us, and we sit down to talk business, personal style and motherhood.
You have your own jewellery line, Madeleine Artisan Jeweler. What inspired you and what was the impetus to start your own business? Did you feel that was something missing from the market?
It all started naturally. First it was only a hobby and then slowly turned into a business over time. I had read about David Sandu’s courses and decided to attend them. I loved the first one, did the second one right after, started to buy utensils. And the rest is history. I think there was a big lack of contemporary jewellery on the Romanian market 4-5 years ago. I wanted simple, raw pieces. And I made them reality.
What are your blings inspired by?
Nature, people, gestures.
What does it mean for you as a mom to also have and run your own brand?
It’s just like having a normal job, as any mom. I have indeed more freedom and flexibility, but I always try to keep my work in a schedule, so that my programme doesn’t get hectic.
How do you manage your time between work and your family?
I started making jewellery when my son Matei was already one year old, so it wasn’t difficult at all for me. Basically I’m in the studio until 5 PM, then gym and when I get home I function as a full-time mom. I have managed to find a balance between work and home and that’s why it seems so easy and natural to me now.
Was it easy to leave the baby with a nanny from the beginning?
Yes, I had no problem in leaving him with the babysitter because I was lucky enough to find a great person for him from the very beginning, that would look after him and take care of him in the best way. We had our nanny, Gretti, since Matei was one month old, so I can say she pretty much raised him alongside with me and this was great. This way, I was able to focus on my business and my personal life outside of motherhood.
What does a normal weekday look like for you?
During week days we all wake up around 7 in the morning. Matei and my husband have breakfast together; and then I drive him to kindergarden because my studio is in the same area. Until 5 I’m Madeleine; afterwards I try to get to the gym several times a week in the evenings. When I get home we usually make dinner, play and then bed-time. The weekends are different, we then try to do as much as we can in the form of 3.
How would you describe your personal style?
I would say classic – I wear jeans, T-shirts and jackets. I love high heels! They’re a must! In this photo I am wearing one of my favorite Irina Marinescu dresses. She’s my best friend and the designer I am wearing most.
What is your favourite holiday getaway? Do you take Matei with you, how was it like to travel with a kid?
Athens! 🙂 I love Athens both in summer and winter. We travel pretty often with him, the first time he came with us was on a family trip in Greece, where our friends also came with kids. I found it pretty easy, because he was playing a lot with the others and they had a common schedule. But after holidays with our son, there is a must for vacations in two or at least weekend getaways!
What do you hope your child will learn from you – from your lifestyle, work, etc?
I hope he will chose his job with his soul and I want him to love what he is doing.
What are your go-to products and beauty secrets for always looking fresh and rested?
If you could change anything about your lifestyle, what would it be? – I would like to eat less SUGAR ! 🙂
What are your top 5 must have Mom Essentials?
A toy-car ( you never know when you need one), something to snack on and wet wipes!
What was the most surprising thing about being a mom? – The calmness with which I handle different situations.
Would you have another one? – Yes, another girl please!
What do you do in your free time – yoga, workout, spa, holidays
I work out and I also work by shopping online! 🙂
Your advice for working moms who try and strike the perfect balance between work and home?
